Warning after summer burglaries

A spate of burglaries caused by people leaving doors and windows open in the warm weather has led to police in Leicester to issue a warning.
Police said a nearly a third of burglaries in the city over the past five months had been committed at properties which were left unsecured.
More than 300 incidents where a thief entered through an unlocked window or door have been reported since 1 April.
Det Sgt Paul Kenyon said these could easily have been avoided.
He said: "These figures clearly show the link between warmer weather and a rise in burglaries.
"During July, when we enjoyed a couple of weeks of good weather, the number of burglaries involving insecure windows or doors peaked at 87.
"It is very disappointing because so many of these burglaries, and the significant upset they cause, could have been easily prevented."
