Vandals rip doors from beach huts
18/08/2008
Twenty-six beach huts in Hampshire have been vandalised.
Twenty four huts at Calshot, near Fawley, were broken into, while an attempt was made to break into two others.
Police said a tool was used to rip off the doors causing "considerable damage" but nothing seemed to have been stolen.
Pc Adrian Woodhead, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: "I would estimate the cost of repairs to all the beach huts to be in the region of £2,000."
He added: "I would like to speak to anyone who was at the beach yesterday evening or early this morning, particularly anyone fishing or walking their dog.
"They may have information which could assist the investigation."
