Finally, i will focus on how to prepare the door mechanism for work on the door. Firstly in order to remove the door mechanism your need to open the door and then remove the door handle.
If there is a circular knob on the door there will be a steel shaft between the knob and the door. You need to unscrew the connecting screw and pull both handles away from the door.
If there is a handle on the door then you need to remove all four screws holding the handle plate the door. You need to do this on both sides of the door. Then pull both door handles off the shaft, then remove the shaft.
On the side of the door you will see two screws at the same level as the door handle. You need to unscrew both of them and then place your screwdriver in the hole where the handle goes. Then press sideways on the screwdriver until the mechanism comes loose. Remove the box from the door and lay it on a flat surface. Unscrew the screw on its side. Be careful to remember where everything is in the door mechanism.
