Internal Doors - Prisoners have keys.
08/02/2008
It emerged in March of this year that more than half of prisoners in one county had keys to their own cell doors. The prisoners control over internal doors has brought criticism upon the Home Office. Officials delclared that this system of internal door control was for the protection of the prisoners and their belongings. Figures show that 5,747 of the 9,577 prisoners in Yorkshire had keys for their internal doors. Governors in other parts of the country are thought to support the system of prisoners having keys to internal doors and might introduce it themselves.
